Wandering along Kanchenjunga Day 3 Part 5

Day 3 Part 5

At the fag end of the day.. had the pleasure of exploring M.G.Road...
the shoppers delight at Gangtok...

The area is a two pronged road...
one road is completely paved with pedestrians only access
and

the other is with a single lane traffic on one half of road through and through and

the other half is cordoned off and tile paved as the pedestrians exclusive..

The items available are mostly woolen wear (may be due to approaching winter) and the regular retail shops found elsewhere... There are a few traditional Sikkimese jewel items mostly of beads in various forms and Sikkimese chinaware... Exclusive shops of Sikkim Tea (the golden coloured) are found aplenty.
It was interesting to explore every nook and cranny in those small shops. By the time we reached there it was nearing four and the buildings were casting long shadows with the setting sun in the horizon... Soon the dusk set in..
Coming to the place where we stayed... It was a resort which was about 10kms away from Gangtok... quite close to the Mayfair Casino... It had a typical Sikkimese facade. The interior was wooden paneled and the lounge housed wonderful solid pieces of furniture... Interestingly, their diner was once again wooden paneled but in contrast the buffet area and the bar was done with thick thatched roof supported by tree stumps giving it an ethnic look... They served the local fare in addition to Mughalai and Continental. Food was delicious... Sikkim is noted for its organic vegetables and only that is grown. The dishes prepared were mouth watering... The delicate flavour of these dishes tickled the taste buds.. Loved the momos and the traditional soup. After all the outdoor activities of the day, the warmth of the soup and the hot momos were like Manna....

That was Day 3 filled with fun and a sense of fulfillment...
