Wandering in the Vibrant City... Kolkata... Day 2 Part 4

Day 2  Part 4

By the time we finished our walk around the garden, the shadows had started to grow long and the sun was getting geared up  to spread  a colourful blanket in the sky before settling down. So we headed back to our Inn…

The area we left was closing for the day and in contrast the area we stayed, New Market area was coming alive with the crowd milling along to shop…
The street vendors who had opened up their kiosks and their wares on the covered walkway in the morning were all geared to receive the buyers with bright lights set up… After the hot sunny day people thronged to shop before heading home… It was very interesting to watch the milling crowd bargaining at each and every ware being bought. The minute the vendors sense the tourists, shopping every item becomes fixed price ones… But I must say Kolkata is an extremely shopper friendly place…

When we realised that it was not yet half past five but just the sun light was waning we decided to explore the College Road area and climbed on to a tram… That is the area where lots of renowned schools and colleges are present with an exclusive college square too… That is the area where the learned elite of yore had their residences including Swami Vivekananda...

The Pics above and below are of Presidency University, formerly known by the names, Hindoo College and Presidency College, the place that boasts of the illuminary Alumni such as Babu Rajendra Prasad, Bankim Chandra Chaterjee, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Satyendra Nath Bose, Amartya Sen to name a few...

This street is filled with books, hoards and hoards of it…
Lovely place to browse around... Reader's Delight...

It was a day of contrast... the serenity of the Botanical gardens and the hustle bustle of the market area...

With the vendors’ calls to buy their wares ringing in our ears we headed towards our Inn and called it a day… All the walk amidst the green had brought in a pleasant feeling...  We also had to be up by half past four to go to our next point of interest… The Sunderbans…
